Over the last few years we have seen this event at the beautiful Business Design Centre go from strength to strength. It has a true family feel and this starts with the exhibitors themselves, many of whom we have seen return year after year. That is quite a reputation to uphold for any event organising team.

This seasons event, on 17 & 18 June in Islington has a fantastic line up of exhibitors and seminar sessions to attract visitors to look at a wide range of issues surrounding the childrens clothing industry including stock and cash handling, customer service, social media, trend forecasting and PR & marketing.

Is it true to say that all of us fancy an abstract man even if we can’t believe it ourselves? An abstract man will be radical, tell obscure jokes that only he may find funny (unless of course he has abstract friends who have a ‘love this feature in you’ relationship) wear far-out hats and generally be helpful in the most caring way he can.

But back to reality and back to the cupboard at MHQ we know that whilst our hearts desire to spend time with this man (even if only on our day off) what we really need is an abstract man, with facial features, finished in an all in one colour choice of white matt or flesh tone. It’s not everyday that we get to see such a large group of mannequins in one place and each time I see such a picture it makes me feel quite proud. It is something about their uniformity and this can be reflected in displays that show boldness and bravery. Hence their name – The Troop of Soldiers are now available to hire at a budget rate but bare in mind that they are used mannequins that we will not yet renovate, to ensure that finances do not stop anyone using such a large group of mannequins at once. Of course this is not true! People can not turn into mannequins just as mannequins don’t come alive and become real people, but it has been the fantasy of writers and directors worldwide.

The most popular example of such an exchange of being is from the 1987 film Mannequin with Kim Cattrall & Andrew McCarthy.

You could of course though mimic a mannequin as our fantastic friend the mannequin man does for a living. Can you spot which one he is?!

So to conclude this myth that people turn into mannequins or that mannequins turn into people – you will have to make up your own mind and limit yourself only by your own imagination!

I often question this but are there really any ‘trends’ in the mannequin world?

We believe there is a bit of a craze for certain types of mannequin and many of them are represented on our website at www.mannakin.com and the pure variety of choice is satisfactory for many ideas and projects. However, once we start looking at individual brands, we see that certain mannequin types are chosen for different on and off line stores. Have a good look next time you go shopping!

The most recent trend we have seen at MHQ is one that can be utilised for different photographic shoots. One such star in the making is our Lovely Lola Mannakin, who is available in a matt white finish. This finish reduces glare and shine from the surface of the mannequin when taking photo’s. She can also be used for head only shots, gloves, bags and accessories as well as up to full bodied clothing.

Hiring a mannequin for such a shoot is a good idea. It is a lower cost that buying and you don’t have to worry about mannequin maintenance which is time consuming, costly and requires much skill and patience.
